Small Space Workout Tips

The gym is closed, practice is canceled and you’re desperate for a solid workout. Here’s the good news — all you need is a small space and some energy!

Working out at home can be the perfect way to try something new. Maybe you’ve always wanted to try yoga, focus on core strength, or learn to do a proper push-up. Now is your chance! Seize the opportunity to improve a skill you never had time to do before.

Let’s get creative. If you don’t have a weight rack or even a yoga mat, here are some ways to improvise your at-home workouts.

  • Use a blanket or towel in place of a yoga or exercise mat.
  • For strength training, look for 2- to 3-pound items that are easy to hold in your hand (ie: water bottle or a can of  food)
  • Use solid surfaces like a chair or couch in place of a workout bench.
  • Use a body-length mirror to ensure proper form while exercising.

Here are some small space workouts to get you started:

  • Jumping jacks
  • Mountain climbers
  • High knees

  • Wall squats
  • Lunges
  • Calf raises

  • Supermans
  • Sit-ups
  • Toe touches

Stay Focused

It’s easy to get distracted during a workout, so consider listening to music or working out in a secluded space. Schedule time each day to focus on self-wellness. Staying active is an important part of a balanced lifestyle.
