What is Crushing the Curve?
Crushing the Curve is a youth-led campaign designed to help teens and young adults to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and get through the struggles that the pandemic has created. The campaign is a partnership of Public Health and Behavioral Health departments across seven Bay Area jurisdictions as well as the City of Sacramento and is funded through a grant from the Centers for Disease Control Foundation (CDCF), and the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).
So what does it mean to Crush the Curve?
You may have heard the phrase “flatten the curve,” referring to the goal of reducing the number of infections occurring at once. Ultimately we want to reduce or “crush” the number of COVID infections so counties move down in tier restrictions and are able to fully open back up. By administering vaccinations, wearing a mask, and practicing social distancing we are making strides to “crush the curve,” but we need to stick with it if we are going to have those 4th of July BBQ’s and other summer plans we all miss so much.
President Biden announced that all adults should be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine by May 1. For many people, this was the first hopeful sign in a long, hard year. We recognize that it’s been hard to deal with all the changes the pandemic has brought, but an end to the restrictions is in sight if we can continue to do our part a little while longer.
What are some ways you can help to crush the curve?
- Step up – Do your part to protect your community by taking the necessary precautions like social distancing and getting tested when necessary or getting the vaccine when it’s your turn.
- Mask up – Protect yourself, your family, and your community by wearing a mask.
- Chin up – Stay connected to your friends and family from a safe distance. Check-in on the people you care about. Visit crushingthecurve.me for tips on how to take care of your own mental health.
